Community Fuel Breaks
Thompson Ridge Fuel Break 2025:
This August, the AFSC started placing photo plot sites on the Thompson Ridge project to monitor pre-work and post-work, while also giving information regarding future maintenance response after mastication is accomplished. Once mastication is completed, the plan is to then carry out an herbicide spray on the treated footprint within one year of mastication. After the success we experienced with the herbicide treatment on the Crestview Unit, the AFSC and our partner, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), are enthusiastic about the fuel break resiliency this two-pronged approach will make for years to come. This project is located entirely on BLM ground. The AFSC received federal funding to implement this project and it is expected that field work will start this fall/winter.
